MBC-LEO provides scholarship opportunities to high school students entering college, or current college freshman becoming sophomores for the upcoming school year. Thanks to our fundraising efforts over the last couple of years, MBC-LEO has established a book scholarship fund and will grant $500 to a deserving student each summer. The application deadline is June 1 of each year. Please distribute this information to schools in your area, or give to someone that you feel is deserving of such an award. In order for an MBC-LEO scholarship application to be considered it must meet the scholarship requirements and be presented to the Scholarship Committee by a member of MBC-LEO.
The forms can be found below:
Please consider a contribution to the scholarship fund to help promising young students. Checks can be mailed to MBC-LEO, 1675 Green Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48105. Checks should be made out to MBC-LEO Scholarship Fund. It’s imperative that we keep raising funds so that we can continue to offer this scholarship on an annual basis.
MBC-LEO Announces its First Scholarship Recipients
Congratulations to the Michigan Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials' first two scholarship recipients, Shellis Hampton of Grand Rapids and Lawrence Dupree of Harper Woods! The students were chosen based on their political participation, academic achievement, school and community activities, and a personal essay. Hampton will be entering Hampton University in the fall, and Dupree is a student at Oakland University. They will be recognized at the MBC-LEO fundraising dinner at the Radisson Hotel in Lansing on November 9.
